Wow! We can't believe we're already finished the first week of our Education Mission. This year, we have 2 new volunteers, Ryan and Michelle, from the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Ottawa, and returning volunteers, Dr. Ruth Kane and ourselves, Julia Pilon and Rebecca Zunder.
This past weekend was Easter and it was great to see all the kids, young and old, home from school. We had a delicious Easter lunch with traditional Ugandan food - thank you, Stella and Ayub!
Ryan and Michelle have been teaching English and Science at St. Annes Ggoli Girls Primary School. They are covering everything from family trees and Canadian culture to cell division and the digestive system. It has been a busy week but they are really enjoying this experience.
Julia and I have been teaching physical education to P1, 2 & 3 students at Kamengo Primary School. They are in exams this week but we've been helping them clear their minds and get some healthy physical activity before they get to work. Let's just say we've been playing a lot of Red Light, Green Light and What Time is it Mr. Wolf?
We have also been making really great headway on the Library project! We cleared out the basement and sorted through all the materials and books. We asked Devis to help us with making a sign and a stamp, Jacob will help build the shelves, Miro painted the room and Julia and I have been busy cleaning and organizing with the help of Viola and Joyce. It really is all hands on deck and we cannot wait to show you the final product!
Keep an eye out for our next blog post as we finish our second week on the Education Mission!
